Review of Coconut Creek, Florida

Home sweet home
Star Rating - 5/1/2016
Lived in this and very nearby area since 1974 so I'm very familiar with the area. The roads and buildings have increased greatly. Lots of diversity ... people from all over the world here. You will hear French, Italian, Creole, Spanish, Portugese, occasionally Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean spoken here. Lots of people from Brazil, Latin America, Jamaica, Haiti, Mexico, Canada, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, even Poland, and Russia here. I think the crime rate is high because there is a lot of anonymity and transience...you can lose yourself here. If you don't want to run into someone, this is the place to be. Also we have many sober houses, drug and alcohol rehabs, (most rehabs going for $36,000/mo or mental health places going for free (for the indigent) or up to $16,000 or $36,000 per month. A lot of sober houses charge anywhere from $230 to $600+ per month to sleep in a bed in a bedroom with 5 or 6 people in a house the owner rents from some unknowing sucker. Also a lot of group homes for the elderly and ALFs (assisted living facilities) and nursing homes. Lot of schools for preschool to high school... including private and charter and alternative schools. I feel safe here 99 percent of time but I try not to be out past 11:30 pm... after that is when the drunks are driving on the road, and the rare shootings in other parts of south florida seem to happen after 1 a.m. in morning. Nice to have the beach close by. Since I haven't lived outside of Fla. much I don't have much to compare it to. This has been my home for my 99.9 percent of my entire life. We have the extremely wealthy here but many who aren't making much money. Lots of scammers especially focusing on women and older folks- particularly if you own your own home or condo or car or need to buy or service a car. On other hand, most single women who are looking to meet someone seem to be looking for a man with excessive income (gold diggers) so for both genders, I'd say be careful about who you hire for service workers or who you date. We have a pretty fair amount of homeless.. you will often see them with their signs asking for money at the stop lights or at night they often sleep on benches or just out of sight or many sleep in front of the Broward Outreach center on Blount road... guess it gets so filled up they can't get in and have to sleep on the lawn. We have lots of AA meetings here .. about 500 a week... should you decide to quit drinking... the meetings are usually filled up with people who are court ordered or people living in the treatment facilities. People living here are either wealthy or professionals but mostly those people are too busy working to have much leisure time or there are the opposite types unemployed and needing rides, money, place to stay..there are also retirees trying to stretch their fixed incomes who find creative ways to get a free lunch through networking events or you might meet them when the car dealers give out free lunch to try and attract buyers. There are also the extremely wealthy who like living here because it's so close to the islands.. they are going on exotic cruises, lecturing at colleges, flying around the world when they aren't at their homes here....is life like this everywhere throughout USA in the big cities?
